During the second week of August, Marda Loop will transform into a northern New Orleans as the Calgary Marda Gras Street Festival returns. This annual event will be held on Sunday, August 9th for its 31st year and is expected to bring in more than 35,000 attendees.
Nestled between the communities of South Calgary and Altadore, the popular festival will be hosted in the heart of Marda Loop on 33rd & 34th Avenue SW between 19th & 22nd Street SW (see map below). To save you the hassle of parking, free parking and shuttle service to and from The Military Museums (4520 Crowchild Trail SW) will be provided between 9:45am and 5:20pm.
Dynamic entertainers, including buskers, dancers and musical performers, will be showcased on four different stages at multiple street corners throughout the day between 10am and 5pm.
Guests can also look forward to a feast of edible delights, including Calgary’s favourite local food trucks and various specialty vendors showcasing authentic Cajun cuisine.
Craving fresh accessories, fashion or gift inspirations? Come explore the tempting assortment of memorable collectibles, and dare yourself to indulge (at least!) once.
And since no celebration could possibly be complete without your best friends, Marda Gras proudly presents its wildly anticipated Pet Pageant at 33rd Avenue and 20th Street.
Strutting their stuff before a panel of esteemed Judges, local pups will vie for the titles of Best Costume, Best Trick and Best Voice / Bark. Not to be left out, humans too may compete as owner / dog teams in the Lookalike contest, a surefire crowd-pleaser for all ages, and species.
Don’t miss the party! But DO dress to impress with your most festive purples, golds, greens – and beads!
